Where every lake sings its own reflection of the mountains.

Embark on a moderate trek just outside Thimphu and discover Bhutan’s alpine wonderland. The Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek leads you through a symphony of sparkling lakes, each mirroring the snowcapped Himalayan peaks above. Wander amid vibrant wildflowers, encounter traditional herder camps, and breathe in sweeping highland vistas that feel untouched by time. This trek is a perfect blend of adventure, nature, and serene beauty—ideal for photographers, nature lovers, and those seeking a peaceful escape.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Thimphu -> Khoma -> Gur
  • Your journey begins with a morning drive from Thimphu to the trailhead at Khoma/Genekha, a quiet village surrounded by forested hills. From here, you start trekking upward through rhododendron and oak forests before emerging into open meadows dotted with yak‑herder shelters. The trail climbs steadily but comfortably until you reach Gur, a wide alpine pasture that serves as your first campsite, offering peaceful surroundings and early views of the high ridgelines ahead.

  • Day 2: Gur -> Labatama
  • You continue upward along a series of ridges that open into sweeping views of the Himalayan range, including distant peaks like Jomolhari and Jichu Drake. The trail undulates across high pastures before descending into the beautiful Labatama Valley, home to several pristine alpine lakes. After setting up camp beside the valley, you typically spend the afternoon exploring nearby Utsho Tsho, the first of the region’s iconic lakes.

  • Day 3: Labatama -> Panka
  • This day takes you deeper into the heart of the Thousand Lakes region as you visit more of its famous waters, including Relitsho, Setsho, Hentsho, and Jagatsho, each surrounded by rugged cliffs and high‑altitude scenery. After exploring the lakes, the trail leads over gentle passes with panoramic mountain views before descending into the serene meadows of Panka, where you camp for your final night amid quiet alpine landscapes.

  • Day 4: Panka -> Chamgang -> Thimphu
  • The final day crosses several small passes that offer last, dramatic views of Everest and Bhutan’s highest peaks before the trail begins its long, gradual descent toward Chamgang. The landscape shifts from high meadows back into forested slopes as you complete the trek. At Chamgang, your vehicle awaits for the short drive back to Thimphu, marking the end of your Dagala Thousand Lakes adventure.
